More opportunities for students to take the stage

French Student Idol - Winners!!!!

Last week, the GEMS senior years students Marilena, Elizabeth, Avaana and Dhafin competed in the French Student Idol and came back home with a first prize!! They sang the song 'La Meme Histoire by Feist and nailed it. The second prize went to NUS and the third to Tanglin Trust.

A big thank you to Mr Kader and Ms Manson for supporting the Gems team. It was heartwarming to see the four students work together and proudly represent GEMS (Singapore). They planned choreography, practised harmonies and wore Blue, White and Red dresses to symbolise the French flag. It was a slick and elegant performance!

As a parent in the audience said: “Competitions like this are a brilliant way to foster a greater appreciation for the language in practice, widen the community and showcase GEMS' talent and dedication in arts and culture.”

The Dream Team

We are delighted to share that Secondary Years school show 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' has been scheduled for 22-24 January 2020. Mark your calendars parents and watch out for tickets on sale after the December break.

The show is coming together really well with a strong cast, dedicated staff and enthusiastic crew with a ‘can do’ attitude. Here’s a quick peek behind the scenes to see how things are shaping up. Everyone involved is working so hard, and at the same time enjoying the process. The smiles say it all.

Opportunities Galore

The first few weeks of the new term have been full and exciting with musical opportunities happening each week and being great fun.

Dhaffin Rizaldi, Dominque Xin Lin Huang and Kohki Takeuchi were part of the Lunchtime Recital on the 25th October. They played a wonderful set and helped to raise some more money for the Think Pink breast cancer awareness day. They played a wonderful set including Chopin and Jazz. The performers will also represent the school at the IN exhibition opening night at the Australian High Commission.

Karaoke Mondays

Students have also come in their mass numbers to Karaoke sessions on Monday. These are great fun, with a supportive atmosphere. It is also a great opportunity for students to practise their singing skills.

In the music department, we have also been building Music production opportunities. By developing a music production area it allows creativity and further skill development in all areas of music. That they can produce and record their own songs.

GEMS TEDx Talk

I had the pleasure of being an audience member for our very first, but hopefully first of many TEDx Talks last week. It was a student-led initiative supported by staff and the standard and quality of the speeches were most impressive. Students spoke with passion, integrity and knowledge. The confidence and professionalism they displayed emphasised the message our very own Ms Manson spoke about 'being scared' but facing the fear and doing things anyway. Topics ranged from 'Success is defined by YOU' to 'Colour-blind casting'.
